Final Part of My Costume,Makeup and Accesories Rant:)

How now!

I am going to keep this part short and sweet. IMHO, you definitely need a bit of bling on the stage/at other venues. I invested in some gorgeous bling while I was in Egypt. I bought it from the sweetest Belgium man- I literally became scared of walking past his table at the Nile Group Festival for fear of buying more bling! On my second last day in Cairo though, the lovely Rachel Bond of Sydney (btw, this woman is not only sweet and a great dancer, she also has some of the most beautiful costumes in her bellydance closet. Enough to make you seethe with envy!) took us through some winding alleys,up several flights of stairs in an old and shabby building tucked away in the back of Khan El-Khalili (don't ask me how to get there, I have no idea how to get back there) and.....OMG!
It was like being in a treasure cave. Except that it was an airconditioned room Chock-a-block (here's a term I haven't used for decades, I have no idea why that popped into my head) with bling in every single color you can imagine. There was a seperate room with more bling. Then another room downstairs with even more bling. Enough to make you go completely insane. The crystals were gorgeous. So sparkly and gorgeous. In every single design you could ever imagine. Unfortunately, by that stage, I was almost screamingly broke I had purchased costumes, music, dvds, accessories etc. But if I hadn't already purchased those jewellery sets, I would have lost my mind and started snapping up those gorgeous babies in that room. Sigh. Their stuff was top-notch. For a fraction of the price you could get anywhere else.

Anyways, I have been on a rant roll for the past several days:), but basically, a good costume jewellery set is a sound investment to set off your costumes, you don't have to spend a fortune, I think Mangga Dua has some great ones at really affordable prices. One of our dancers, Lynda, bought a lovely one four years ago and it still looks very blingy and hasn't faded at all. The ones I purchased were well worth the price. They haven't faded at all even though I sweat bucket loads every time I wear them. I'm sure you really wanted to hear that;). The first set I bought cost me 50 thousand from somewhere in Semanggi, and faded after about 5 times even though I coated it with clear nail polish to try and protect the metal part. Well, for the price you can't complain I guess.

So.....if any of this information has helped you at all, I will be ecstatic. If not, I hope you enjoyed my little side stories that managed to find it's way into this post.

If not...errr......I don't know what to say to you. But you probably would have stopped reading before this if that was the case.

xoxo
